Your options for changing the font colour in an eBook will depend on the collection it is from, and whether you are reading it online or if you have download it to your computer. Please see the instructions below. The name of the collection the eBook is from should be displayed at the top of the page when you first access it.

In addition to the specific instructions below, you may also be able to change font colours using your web browser or operating system settings.

Collection: The Academic Library

Read online:

There is no inbuilt option to change the font colour.

Download: 

It is not possible to download eBooks from The Academic Library.

Collection: ACLS Humanities

Read online:

You can choose whether you want to view ACLS Humanities eBooks as an image, text, or PDF (option to download the current chapter as PDF). If you choose image or text, there is no option to change the font colour. 

Download: 

It is not possible to change the font colour of ACLS Humanities eBooks in Adobe Reader.

Collection: Berg Fashion Library

Read online:

There is no inbuilt option to change the font colour.

Download: 

It is not possible to download eBooks from Berg Fashion Library.

Collection: CAB eBooks

Read online:

CAB eBooks are download only - you can either download an individual chapter or the whole eBook.

Download:

Collection: Cambridge Core

Read online:

For some Cambridge Core eBooks, you can read individual chapters online, depending on the book title. There is no option to change the font colour when reading online.

Collection: Dawsonera 

eBooks are available in two different formats, depending on the title of the eBook: PDF (option to read online or download) and EPUB3 (option to read online or download). The majority of Dawsonera eBooks are PDFs. You can filter by the different formats using the menu on the left hand side.

Reading online - online PDF and online EPUB:

There is no inbuilt option to change the font colour.

PDF/EPUB download - these download as a .ACSM file and must be opened in either Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader.

PDF download in Adobe Digital Editions:

There is no inbuilt option to change the font colour.

PDF download in Bluefire Reader:

If you go to View PDF Settings and then tick the box next to Night Mode, this makes the book display as white text on a black background. There is no option to choose a custom font colour.

EPUB download in Adobe Digital Editions: 

There is no inbuilt option to change the font colour in Adobe Digital Editions. 

EPUB download in Bluefire Reader: 

You can choose between black and white font colour by going to View ePUB Settings and ticking the box next to Advanced Settings. Then select your preferred theme from the list of themes. You can also change the font style by selecting from the Font Face menu. 

Collection: Drama Online

Read online:

There is no inbuilt option to change the font colour.

Download: 

It is not possible to download eBooks from Drama Online.

Collection: Ebook Central (from Proquest)

If you decide to read the eBook online, it will be displayed in online PDF format. If you decide to download the entire eBook, you can choose whether to download it as EPUB or PDF. These book downloads will be in .acsm file format. If you decide to download an individual chapter from the eBook, this will download as a PDF (.pdf) file, and will have more accessibility options available to you than if you downloaded the entire book.

If ‘Accessibility Mode’ is activated, eBooks are also available to read online in HTML format. If you would like ‘Accessibility Mode’ to be activated for your Ebook Central account, please email library@leedsbeckett.ac.uk to request this. The following information applies to the Ebook Central platform without ‘Accessibility Mode’ activated.

You can activate ‘Night mode’ (under View > PDF Settings) which inverts the colours.

Full book download - EPUB (opened in Adobe Digital Editions):

There is no option to change the font colour.

Full book download - EPUB (opened in Bluefire Reader):

You can activate ‘Night mode’ (under View > ePUB Settings) which inverts the colours.

If you go to View > ePUB Settings > Advanced Settings (tick the box), you can also choose from a range of colour options.

Individual chapter download - PDF (opened in Adobe Reader):

Collection: Emerald Insight

Emerald Insight eBooks offer the option to download individual chapters in PDF format. For some eBooks you can also download individual chapters in EPUB (.epub) format, or read them online as HTML, depending on the title of the book.

PDF download (opened in Adobe Reader XI): 

When you open the file in Adobe Reader, you will see a message at the top of the page which reads "This file claims compliance with the PDF/A standard and has been opened read-only to prevent modification." EPUB download (opened in Bluefire Reader):

You can choose between black and white font colour by going to View > ePUB Settings and ticking the box next to Advanced Settings. Then select your preferred theme from the list of themes. You can also change the font style by selecting from the Font Face menu. 

EPUB download (opened in the Microsoft Edge web browser's inbuilt EPUB reader):

If you click on the Options menu (i.e. the little AA symbol in the top-right hand corner), you can select from one of three Page Themes, two of which have black text and one has white. You can also select from 6 different font styles.

Collection: ICE Virtual Library

Read online:
