Why doesn't my Dawsonera eBook open with Adobe PDF Reader?
The majority of eBooks are provided as EPubs, which have the file extension .acsm and need specific programs to read them. This is because they have more functionality and better Digital Rights Management than PDFs.
This means that before you can open them you need to have one of the following readers installed:
- Kortext (available from https://www.kortext.com/students - detailed instructions here)
- Adobe Digital Editions (available from https://www.adobe.com/uk/)
- Bluefire Reader (available from http://www.bluefirereader.com)
Student PCs should all have Adobe Digital Editions on them. To use Bluefire Reader or Adobe Digital Editions you need to create an Adobe ID at http://www.adobe.com/ before you'll be able to use the programs. (this is completely separate to any university ID, but you could use your university email address)
For Kortext you only need to register for an account.
Once one of these programs is installed you should be able to view the downloaded file.
