How do I print single-sided?

All university PCs default to printing double-sided.  This is to encourage a greener approach to printing but also to save you money (printing double-sided saves you 2p per 2 pages printed). However you can change your document settings to print single-sided by following the relevant instructions below.

Microsoft Office

These instructions are the same for all Microsoft Office applications.

  • Click on ‘File’ on the toolbar and then click on ‘Print’.
  • Please make sure the printer is set to ‘SafecomPullPrinter’.
    • You can click on the triangle next to the printer name to change which printer you are using.  If ‘SafecomPullPrinter’ isn’t available on the list please speak to a member of the Library Advice Team.
  • Click on the ‘Printer Properties’ hyperlink which you can find underneath the printer name.
  • Make sure the ‘Finishing’ tab is highlighted (this should normally be highlighted when the properties window opens).
  • Untick ‘Print on both sides’ and click ‘OK’.
  • Click the ‘Print’ button and your document will be waiting for you at any University printer.

PDF Document - Edge

All University PCs open PDFs in Edge by default.

  • Click on the printer icon on the toolbar.
    • If the toolbar isn’t displayed, right click on the document and click on ‘Show or hide toolbar.
  • Please make sure the printer is set to ‘SafecomPullPrinter’.
    • You can click on the triangle next to the printer name to change which printer you are using.  If ‘SafecomPullPrinter’ isn’t available on the list please speak to a member of the Library Advice Team.
  • Click on the ‘More settings’ hyperlink at the bottom of the printing dialogue window.
  • Change the ‘Duplex printing’ option to Print on one side.
  • Click ‘OK’.
  • Click the ‘Print’ button and your document will be waiting for you at any University printer.

PDF Document – Adobe Acrobat Reader

Adobe Acrobat reader is more advanced software for reading PDFs.

  • Click on the printer icon on the toolbar.
  • Please make sure the printer is set to ‘SafecomPullPrinter’.
    • You can click on the triangle next to the printer name to change which printer you are using.  If ‘SafecomPullPrinter’ isn’t available on the list please speak to a member of the Library Advice Team.
  • Click on the ‘Properties’ button next to the printer name.
  • Make sure the ‘Finishing’ tab is highlighted (this should normally be highlighted when the properties window opens).
  • Untick ‘Print on both sides’ and click ‘OK’.
  • Click the ‘Print’ button and your document will be waiting for you at any University printer.

Other software and applications

Whilst we do not have specific instructions for other software or applications they should generally follow a similar process as Microsoft Office applications.  If you are struggling to print something single-sided please speak to a member of the Library Advice team.
