When are student IT systems and services unavailable?

We work to keep our IT systems and services for students available all of the time, so that you can make use of them when you need to. However, IT changes all the time and occasionally we need to take systems or services down to upgrade and/or maintain them.

Please check our Service Alerts page as we will update this with details of which systems and services are affected. Details of emergency or unplanned downtime will also be published there. If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch with the Library and Student IT Advice team via our Contact Us page.

Tuesday mornings from 07:00 – 09:00 will remain an upgrade window where services should be considered at risk. This window will be used for minor upgrades that have minimal service disruption or for making essential changes and updates that are not expected to be service affecting.

The calendar below highlights set dates for the 2023-24 academic year when our IT systems will be unavailable.

Closer to the weekend of each maintenance window, one of the days will be selected based on the University’s calendar of events and availability of technicians. Details of the outage will be publicised through the IT Self-Service Portal.

While these windows will be reserved for IT Services to perform essential upgrades and maintenance to hardware and software, there may not be a need to utilise every window. Colleagues should regularly visit the IT Self-Service Portal if they need to know about a particular date.

For an accessible version of this information, please see the Word document attached to this FAQ.
