Is there software I can use to type whilst I speak?

Dragon NaturallySpeaking is speech recognition software which types as you speak. It has to be trained to recognise your voice first which takes approximately 20 minutes. The software is not available in the Library as it must be used in an environment with no background noise and where others will not be disturbed by the speaking. If you are registered with the Disability Advice Team and are interested in getting the software for your own computer the Library Learning Support Officer can give you a demonstration.

Microsoft Office and Windows 10 also have a dictate function built in, see What is “Dictate” and how do I use it?

You may also find the free Voice typing function in Google Docs useful. Go to the Tools menu and choose Voice typing.
