There may occasionally be a need to opt-out of Rights Retention (RR).
There are three possible reasons for opt out we have identified:
- Co-authors not agreeing with Rights Retention.
- The article contains third-party copyright material you do not own the rights to share.
- In rare cases, a journal may not want to publish if rights retention is applied. (Experience from those institutions who’ve been running Rights Retention for some time indicates this seldom occurs).
Authors must confirm that opting out of RR does not cause the research output to be non-compliant with funder policies.
To opt-out we ask authors to submit a Rights Retention Opt-out form with details of the publication.
