You should always log in using your staff account. If you’re a PGR student who also has a staff account, you will not be able to log in to Symplectic with your student account. This is to prevent:  

• Duplicate updates being made in two separate accounts

• Duplicate profiles appearing in Discovery

• Mismatched research outputs between accounts

If you’re logged into your student account, you may see a “permission denied” message when trying to access your Symplectic staff account. This happens because your browser often stays signed in to one identity across all systems, so it will keep using your student sign-in. To fix this, please try the following:  

• Open a new incognito or private window and sign in there with your staff email and password

• Or use a different browser entirely. For example, keep your student account in Google Chrome and use Firefox, Edge or Safari for your staff account

• If it still says permission denied, fully sign out in your current browser, then sign back in with your staff details

• If needed, clear cookies for Microsoft, Leeds Beckett and Symplectic sites, then try again
