OneNote Online is a simplified version of OneNote on desktop. Features such as password protecting your notebook, linking notebooks with other documents, and the translation tool are only available on the desktop version of OneNote.

However, OneNote Online has the majority of OneNote's functionality, and the option to open the notebook you are working on in OneNote for desktop is always available in the taskbar at the top of the screen.
