How do I join an Adobe Connect meeting and connect my audio?
- Where possible we recommend using a PC/Mac and check set up/download app prior to any scheduled meetings.
- Adobe Connect is not compatible with Google Chromebooks.
- Compatible with android/apple devices via an app.
Instructions for joining on a PC/Mac
Stage 1) Using the ‘Google Chrome’ web browser, follow the URL link provided by your tutor to access the meeting room. (e.g. http://leedsbeckett.adobeconnect.com/meeting). You will not need to log in.
Stage 2) Choose the option ‘Enter as a Guest’ and type in your name, then click the ‘Enter Room’ button.
Stage 3) Once you are in the meeting room, go to the top left corner of the window and click on ‘Meeting’, then click ‘Audio Setup Wizard’.
Stage 4) Click the ‘Next’ button in the window that appears.
Stage 5) Follow the Instructions from the wizard to test your speakers/headphones. You will need to click ‘Play
Sound’ to test if you can hear anything. When you do, click ‘Next’. If you don’t hear any sound, make
sure your speakers/headphones are turned on/connected and your volume isn’t all the way down or on mute.
Stage 6) Next you need to set up your microphone. You may have a separate microphone plugged in (i.e. a headset) or a built in microphone in your PC/headphones, or both. You will need to select the one you intend to use. Click the dropdown menu and choose a microphone. (NOTE: Some people may have only one, but others may have a few if webcams and other devices plugged in have a built-in microphone too.) Click ‘Next’.
Stage 7) Next you need to test that your microphone is working. You will see a ‘Record’ button, which when you press will record a short sample of what your microphone can pick up. Click the ‘Record’ button to begin.
See the screenshot below. If you don’t see this message, skip ahead to Stage 8. If you do see the message you will need to click ‘Allow’ to allow Adobe Connect to access your microphone/camera. If you click ‘Deny’ you won’t be able to record anything. If you don’t see this message, ignore this part of the guide and continue to Stage 8.
If you accidently click deny, you can go back by clicking the camera symbol with a red ‘x’ on it in your URL bar in your browser, in the top right of the screen, and choosing ‘Always allow leedsbeckett.adobeconnect.com to access your camera and microphone’. (See screenshot below).
You will need to reload your page for these changes to take effect and you should see a bar across the top of the page (See image below) informing you this, which unfortunately means going through the first stages of this setup again, although it shouldn’t take more than a minute or so to get back to where you were. Click the ‘Reload’ button to reload the page, then start this guide again.
Stage 8) Record yourself saying something into the microphone and when you’re done click ‘Stop’.
Click ‘Play Recording’ to hear what you recorded. You should hear yourself. If you don’t you will need to select a different microphone by clicking ‘Prev’ and going back to Stage 6. If you have no other microphone to select make sure yours is plugged in correctly. Click ‘Next’ to continue the setup.
Stage 9) Test the background noise/silence around you by clicking ‘Test Silence’ on the next screen. Then click ‘Next’.
Stage 10) You should then get a message telling you the setup has been successful. Click ‘Finish’ to complete the setup.
Stage 11) Next, click on the small arrow next to the Microphone button, and click ‘Connect My Audio’. (NOTE: If you don’t see this button, your tutor will need to enable your microphone access. Once they do this it will appear.)
Click ‘Allow’ if the following message appears:
The Microphone icon should now be green:
NOTE: If you need to switch to another plugged in microphone you can do so by clicking the small arrow next to the microphone sign again, and choosing ‘Select Microphone’ (see screenshot below).
You should now have your microphone fully set up. Your tutor will enable it once you have done this.
