How do I download an eBook?

To download eBooks you need to have an eBook reader installed.

We recommend using Adobe Digital Editions.

To use this, you need to sign up for an Adobe ID (you can register with your University email).

Then download Adobe Digital Editions.

If you are a member of staff installing on a University PC or laptop, please install directly from the PC Software Center where you will find Adobe Digital Editions available. Administrative restrictions will block access directly from the Adobe site.

Once you have installed Digital Editions and authorised it with your Adobe ID you should be able to download and open eBook files from platforms such as VLEbooks and ProQuest Ebook Central.

If you previously downloaded any eBook .acsm files before installing Digital Editions they may not work (see Why is my eBook displaying an 'invalid token' error?). The files will need to be deleted, and re-downloaded to synchronise with the program.

Please check that you can open the Adobe Digital Editions software and ensure you are logged in with your Adobe ID and password. If you require a password reset through Adobe, complete this process first before downloading the e-book .acsm file.
