How do I request an item not held in stock?
You can use our Request It! service to order books, Ebooks, article and book chapters that the Library doesn't hold in stock.
First of all check if we have the item in stock:
- Sign into Discover on the top right-hand side (your name will appear if you are already signed in).
- For further information on using Discover please see the FAQs on the Discover web pages.
- Search for the item you want.
- If we do not stock the item, you can search Libraries Worldwide.
How to search Libraries Worldwide for the item:
- Scroll down on the left-hand side of the Discover results page and tick Libraries Worldwide under the drop-down menu 'Held by Library'.
- If a match is found, click on the title of the item.
- Click on the 'Request It!' button on the right hand-side - you will be taken to the relevant form for your request.
- If we purchase an ebook, this will be available within 3 days or earlier.
- If we purchase a print book, this will usually be available within 4 weeks.
- If we source a print book or article from another Library as an Interlibrary Loan, this will be available within 10 working days or earlier.
- If you select a print book request, please type in the campus you wish to collect it from.
- If you need a specific format, such as print, because of a disability, you can ask us to obtain your required format. On the Request It form in the "Your preferred Format" drop-down list please select from "Ebook only - due to disability" or "Print only - due to disability"
- Complete the relevant unpopulated areas of the form.
- Click 'Submit'.
- You will receive an email notification informing you we have received the request.
How to complete a form manually in My Account:
- Click on the drop-down menu on My Account on the top right hand side of the Discover search page.
- Click on 'Requests'
- Click 'Create Request'
- If you require an article or book chapter use the Request It Article/Book Chapter form option. Please be aware, that due to copyright law, you may only request one chapter from a book.
- If you require a print book or eBook use either the Request It Print Book or Request It eBook form options
- If you need a specific format, such as print, because of a disability, you can ask us to obtain your required format. On the Request It form in the "Your preferred Format" drop-down list please select from "Ebook only - due to disability" or "Print only - due to disability"
- Click 'Submit'.
- You will receive an email notification informing you we have received the request.
Please note: If you are a first or second year undergraduate and we are only able to source a print book from another Library as an Interlibrary Loan, you are eligible for 10 requests per year.
