Why should I use a database?

You may also want to read 'What is a database?'

Databases will help you create focused searches for the most authoritative information on your topic. Chosen by your lecturers, these are paid-for subscriptions that you should use to improve your marks for assignments. They contain high-quality academic content that is not freely available on the internet. The majority of databases contain journal articles, but others may contain statistics, images, maps, etc. Your Libary subject guide will contain a list of the databases recommended for your course. You can also use Discover to search across multiple databases. There is a full list of all the databases Leeds Beckett has access to here: A-Z Databases.

It is vital to use a wide range of sources for your dissertation or major project, so it's a good idea to gain confidence in using databases before your final year. Your Academic Librarian will run sessions to help you build your searching skills. If you need more help you can contact them at any time during your studies.
