Can Symplectic automatically update ORCID with my research outputs?
Yes. You can choose to send your research outputs from Symplectic to your ORCID account, and vice versa.
Connecting ORCID and Symplectic Permissions
How to configure what information is sent to your ORCID account:
- Login to Symplectic
- Go to Menu > My Profile > Settings > ORCID Settings
New to ORCID? Click Register or connect your ORCID iD to get started.
Already connected? Select Reconnect your ORCID iD to refresh the connection and click Authorise access.
Choose the level of access you wish to grant Symplectic and ORCID:
- Full Read/Write: Symplectic can collect publication information from your ORCID profile and send publication data from Symplectic to your ORCID record.
- Read-Only: Symplectic will only collect information about your publications from your ORCID profile.
- Automatic Claiming: When you provide your ORCID iD to publishers, Symplectic will automatically claim matching publications, so you won’t have to claim or reject them manually. Publications will not be sent to or received from your ORCID account under this option.
Manage which publications will be sent
If you choose Full Read/Write, you can select which publications are sent to ORCID. Before deciding, please note:
- If you have a public Discovery profile, you do not need to tick any boxes. All research outputs you send to Discovery will also be displayed in your ORCID account. More details here: How do I update my Privacy settings and featured (favourite) outputs in Discovery?
- If your Symplectic profile is set to internal (no public Discovery profile), choose from the following options:
[ ] For journal articles, send ‘Published’ and ‘Published Online’ only: Untick this box if you wish to display “In Press” articles. Any updates in Symplectic will automatically appear in ORCID. Note: This applies to journal articles only. All other public outputs will still be sent to ORCID.
[ ] Send all publications to ORCID, including those marked as private or internal: All your publications will be displayed publicly in ORCID.
[ ] Only send favourite publications: This option limits what is sent to ORCID to just your favourite outputs in Symplectic. Favourite outputs also appear as highlights in Discovery, so this choice will affect how your research outputs are displayed on your Discovery profile.
Click save.
