Why isn't the article linking directly from Discover?

Sometimes when you try and access a full text article on Discover you don't get taken straight to the article, even though the reocrd gives a 'Green tick' and 'Available'.  Instead you may be taken to a journal page or even to the e-resource platform. This is is because some of our e-resource websites are do not allow direct article level linking.

However, you should still be able to find the article.  To do so, make a note of the Article Title, Journal Title, Year, Volume, Issue and Page Number/s from the Discover record.

  • If you are within the correct e-resource platform (eg you can see the journal title but and lists of years, or volumes) then use your notes to look for the correct journal issue/article.
  • If you are struggling to use the e-resource platform or cannot find the journal, an alternative is to search for the journal via the E-Journals A-Z then go to the Journal home page and search for the correct volume and issue from there (perform a 'Journals' 'Title' 'Search'):

  • You will then see a list of journal titles, so select yours, or you will see the journal directly, and access options as below.  Check the coverage dates match the article you are searching for and click on the Journal title:

Now search for the article within the supplier platform - using the previously noted Article Title, Journal Title, Year, Volume, Issue and Page Number/s

You will then see a list of journal titles, so select yours, or you will see the journal directly.  Check the coverage dates match the article you are searching for and click on the Journal title for full access.
