How many people can look at an eBook at the same time?

Most eBook collections the Library subscribes to allow multiple concurrent users, enabling you to access the title you want, when you want.

However some eBooks do restrict access e.g. certain titles will only allow 3 concurrent users. We only buy eBooks with restricted access as a last resort.

If you try and access a restricted eBook when someone else is using it you should get a message alerting you to this, in which case you will need to try again at a later time. Alternatively, you can enter your email address to get an alert when the title is available to read.

Some example messages are below.

VLEbooks:

Reserve Book No licences currently available. Would you like to reserve this title?

Proquest Ebook Central:

Availability In Use You institution has access to 1 copy of this book. All copies are currently in use. Place a hold to be notified when this book is available.

For guides related to a specific eBook platform, there is an FAQ on VLEbook reservations.

There is also an FAQ on Ebook Central reservations too.
